This Sunday is a big night for electronic music fans in Toronto, as many prolific DJs and artists are playing and performing in our city. Hype1.com has compiled a list in order for you to plan your weekend.
Local boy Sean Miller gets the rare opportunity to perform in front of his hometown crowd at the Next Level for a massive daytime party
Liv presents Sunset Sessions with Sean Miller and Jeff Button @ the Next Level, 11 Polson Street. Doors open at 5pm. $10 before 6pm, $15 after
Local boy Sean Miller gets the rare opportunity to perform in front of his hometown crowd at the Next Level for a massive daytime party with supporting (and emerging) talent Jeff Button. Miller is hitting his stride as a producer and DJ, as his international schedule can attest.
Aside from an intimate party on King Street earlier in the summer, Miller has not played much in Toronto due to his hectic production and international schedule. Expect the energy level to be off the charts for this event as Sean gets the chance to play some of the promos and goodies he has obtained on his international travels. With twisted vocals, spaced out dubs and progressive and forward thinking music on the agenda, this is one of the best bets to start your Labour Day Sunday.
Boogie Inc, Milk, Mixed Signals and Brooks Events present Long Weekend Legends Series with Kerri Chandler @ The Mod Club, 722 College Street West. Doors open at 11pm. $25 at the door, $15 with wristband from Sunnyside Pavilion.
This event is actually a two part party. Part one takes place at Sunnyside Pavilion (1755 Lakeshore Boulevard West) during the day (5pm to 11pm) with locals such as Dirty Dale, Felix and Gani and a "Surprise Guest DJ". Sunnyside Pavilion parties are legendary in the city of Toronto as the crowd is a mature, cheerful and energetic crowd that loves to dance. This is probably your last chance to party at Sunnyside this year, so enjoy it while you can.
The main event of the evening has New Jersey deep house pioneer Kerri Chandler on the decks at the Mod Club. Billed as a "Long Weekend Legends Series", Chandler makes his return to the city after a year long hiatus. Kerri Chandler is known to do much more than DJ when he performs as he truly is an entertainer. Kerri Chandler is known to use keyboards, sing and use effects over the tracks he is playing to give them a richer texture and depth, not seen in many other DJ sets. This should be an entertaining performance by an upfront and pertinent DJ/producer.
Blackmarket and Tenacious Soul present Danny Krivit, Larry Heard and Franck Roger @ the Next Level, 11 Polson Street. Doors open at 10:30 pm. $35 in advance, $50 at the door.
New York deep house legend Danny Krivit (1/3rd of house music super group Body&Soul) headlines this party at the Next Level with an array of talent in Larry Heard (Memphis) and Franck Roger (Paris). Expect sexy vocals, deep grooves, and a fun loving crowd at this event, where the array of talent is well worth the cover charge.
Ink-00 presents Labour of Love with Danny Tenaglia, 16 Bit Lolitas, Armin Van Buuren, Sander Van Doorn, MSTRKRFT, Kaskade, Manzone and Strong, and many, many more at The Guvernment, 132 Queens Quay West. Doors open at 10pm. $55 in advance, more at the door
To say Danny Tenaglia’s appearance at Labour of Love was the shocking announcement of the year, would be an understatement. Tenaglia has not appeared at the Guvernment complex in over seven years (iDream 2000 was his last appearance) and he has not played in Toronto in over two years (iDream 2005), so it took the biggest party of the year in Labour of Love and swank Guvernment renovations to get one of the biggest DJs in the world to return to Toronto.
Tenaglia’s DJ sets are highly regarded both by the general clubbing population and DJs all over the world. His ability to evoke emotion and craft a story via the music is unparalled in the house music industry. Just by Tenaglia’s appearance alone this definitely is the biggest party of the summer, but to top things off the main room boasts 16 Bit Lolita’s.
All rooms in the entire Guvernment complex are open. Trance is on the agenda with Armin Van Buuren headlining the bill. Locals are poised to rock the Skybar and Drum & Bass plus Breaks in the Drink.

Final note: Photos from these events will be posted within the week, so please check back. Enjoy your long weekend, stay hydrated, pace yourself and remembe...you have to be productive on Tuesday
