Chef/owner Joe Mercuri's latest venture sits at the corner of Sherbrooke St. West and St. Mathieu street in Montreal 's museum district. Newly opened Bronte is an amalgamation of a talented team working to breathe life into Mercuri's vision.
As noted by the Montreal Gazette's food critic, Lesley Chesterman: "Mercuri focuses on luxury ingredients (foie gras, deer and veal), assorted cooking techniques (braising, curing, searing and charring), and appealing flavor combinations (risotto with seafood, and wild mushroom-stuffed cannelloni). Although countless chefs have adopted this style post millenium, Mercuri has a unique approach enhanced by a talent for colour and composition. Plate presentations don't get much prettier than this".
The young chef's philosophy is rooted in simplicity; finding a balance between the old and the new. He explains that the concept is sleek yet inviting, opulent yet delicate, flavorful and fresh. Mercuri remarks; "The most important ingredient to success is passion. When work is passion-driven it's never work."

| Member:Kris | Aug 10 2007 1:35PM | | Supper at Bronte was our first dining experience in Montreal, and it was amazing. I literally said, "wow!" probably half a dozen times during the course of the meal. The menu was described as Italian-fusion cuisine, but I think it must lean more to the "fusion" side -- although my meal included ravioli, it was in no way typical of other italian meals I've had. At our waitress' recommendation, we ordered the sweetbreads as an appetizer, and although I was skeptical (I'm not usually that food-adventurous.) I have to admit, it was a good dish. For the main course, I ordered a ravioli dish -- sorry I don't remember the exact name, but it was "Buffalo Milk [something] Ravioli, I think -- and it was AMAZING. I swear I have never had such good food in my entire life. My companion got the filet mignon, which was so good, he refused to even share one small bite with me! (Sadly, we were pressed for time and could not have dessert.) The ticket for such an excellent meal was high -- one appetizer, two entrees, & two glasses of wine came to $125, including taxes but not including tip. Normally, I'm not accustomed to paying that much for supper, but I have to admit the food was so good, it was worth the price. Rating: |
