HYPE1 MMVA Weekend Coverage - Sunday June 17th
By Melissa Anfuso
So many parties so little time.
There were four advertised MMVA after parties following Sunday’s big event, at Ultra Supper Club, Cheval, Level and Century Room. I originally planned on attending every star-studded event, unfortunately time was not on my side and I only made it to three.
During the Much Music Video Awards, many of the celebrities and attendees kept talking about the Post Awards Party at Ultra Supper Club which was to be hosted by Hilary Duff. Being just down the street from Much Music headquarters, we decided that would be our first stop. Immediately following the MMVAs the Hype1 team jaunted over to Ultra, only to see that a very large line up had already formed and seemed to be filled with models, industry insiders, and beautiful people trying to get in. As we made it through the line I could feel the energy in air, this party was definitely going to be hot.
It was hectic inside; the club seemed to be filled to capacity without a single empty space in the entire venue. The dance floor was packed with beautiful people dancing to the sounds of 4Korners; patrons were definitely dressed to impress hoping they would have a chance to mingle with one of their favorite stars that night.
It was still a bit early, and the celebrities where just starting to roll in. Host Hilary Duff showed up not long after us and made her way to a large booth on Ultra’s beautiful roof top patio. She seemed to be thoroughly enjoying herself with friends and a few security guards who shielded her from all the photos everyone was trying to snap. Hilary is definitely a class act and isn’t like many of the other young starlets these days who thrive from the attention of paparazzi and photographers.
Perez Hilton, also know as the gossip gangsta, was walking freely around the upstairs patio, and was more than happy to take photos and engage in conversation with fans and guests. Alexisonfire, Amber Tamblyn, Miss Universe Canada Inga Skaya, Kardinal Offishall, and most of the Much Music VJ’s were amongst the long list of celebs partying at Ultra that night. Unfortunately for us, time was limited and we had to make our way to the next party.
Next stop Wetbar, the rooftop patio of Level Nightclub, where Frank’s Energy Drink was sponsoring Fergie’s After Party. Although Level was not as busy as Ultra, there were still many people trying to get in hoping to see star power. The party at Level was a bit more casual, patrons seemed to be relaxed and enjoying themselves on the oversized patio as extremely hot promo girls walked around dressed in lederhosen promoting Frank’s Energy Drink.
Fergie, who was awarded an MMVA that night for Best International Video, sat in one of the sleek white "Miami style" booths looking very hot and happily smiling for photos. After a short period of time she headed downstairs to check out Level’s main room.
While at Wetbar and Level we also spotted E Talk and Canadian Idol host Ben Mulroney, along with his two brothers and Tara Reid.
Next on to Cheval where last call was extended until 4:00 a.m. for the MMVA festivities. Once we arrived we witnessed another large line up as this upscale venue only recently opened and patrons were just as excited to view the beautiful interior as they were to catch a glimpse of the stars. Cheval welcomed many celebrities that night including Tara Reid, Genuine, Belly, amongst others.
Cheval’s layout includes a long narrow main room with beautiful luxe booths lining the walls, a gorgeous roof top patio, and a designated outdoor smoking area. The music on Sunday night was fantastic and the guests were partying extra hard, dancing to the music with all of the VIP booths filled. It was insanely busy even at 3:00 a.m. A time when most nightclubs are turning on their lights, people were still outside Cheval trying to fight their way in.
Each club did an amazing job hosting their respective after parties. It was definitely a hectic night, but well worth it. The MMVA weekend was fantastic and I absolutely won’t forget all of my adventures, now time to rest until next year!
