Hope everyone had a great Canada Day long weekend, I know I certainly did. Dimitri from Paris played exceptionally well at his spot at Sonic. That’s the reason for this late article.

For starters, the Armin Van Buuren party at Dragonfly on the 5th, and the jojoflores, Barbara Tucker, 3 degrees party would have been sure fire picks this week. But that isn’t to say that there aren’t a lot of parties worth hitting this week?

Friday July 7th 2006. Joe Claussell at Sunnyside Pavilion. 1755 Lakeshore Blvd West. Doors open at 9pm. $20 advance tickets. With Moreno, Felix and Gani, Blueprint, and Richard Brooks.

Hot off the heels of the Body & Soul 10 year anniversary party in New York on July 1st, 1/3rd of the Body & Soul crew headlines another impressive showing from the Milk/Sunnyside weekly deep house parties. Joe Claussell is something to see behind the decks, as his energy is contagious and it spreads down to the dance floor. It is always something to behold as Claussell bops around fiddling with the knobs on his mixer. Last time Claussell played Sunnyside in 2004, it was pouring rain on that night, and still 800 people danced in the rain. This time around, Sunnyside is covered and ready to go, rain or shine.

Friday July 7th 2006. Danny Howells at This is London. 364 Richmond Street West. Doors open at 10pm. $20 at the door. Solo set.

The upscale SoHo Friday house music night at This is London has seen some impressive talent spin since the night started in January of this year. Now with Danny Howells spinning an advertised six hour set, SoHo has its first international headliner opening and closing the night (a local, Brad Copeland has done this several times). Howells usually plays in Toronto on an impressively stacked roster at the Guvernment complex, and his set times are usually 2-3 hours. Now with the headline spot at This is London this Friday, talent buyer Talal Farisi, has satisfied fans demanding an extended set from Danny Howells. This night will be extremely busy and full of energy, as Howell’s is a showman like no other.

Saturday July 8th 2006. Alix Alvarez at The Great Hall. 1087 Queen Street West. Doors open at 11pm. $15 before 2am, more after. With Andy Roberts and Jason Ulrich.

Alix Alvarez along with his Sole Channel partner Mr. V produced one of the biggest house anthems of the year so far, with their track ?Da Bump?. A DJ/producer on the rise, Alvarez heads to Toronto for a late night warehouse session that is sure to attract only the most underground and knowledgeable house heads in the scene. This one will definitely go late night for sure, and certainly will be a "hands in the air" type of night.

Have a great weekend everyone! oj@hype1.com
