After a year of great success, Stirling Room celebrated it’s first anniversary the weekend of July 21-23.  The Distillery came alive with two themed celebrations; The Venetian Act featuring fire-breathers and masked guests and Bootleg in The Distillery, a throwback to prohibition complete with crates of bootlegged booze and gangsters galore.  Tables were sold-out both nights and the buzz was that Stirling Room would continue to be the place to be for the young professional crowd

Grammy award winning artist and chart topper, Bruno Mars was spotted at Toronto’s Tryst Nightclub on the eve of the 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards.

Mars, whose debut album Doo Wops and Hooligans peaked at number 3 on the billboard charts, was seen mingling with fans, enjoying champagne and shots with friends, and even surprising patrons with an impromptu live performance!

Fresh from the recent U.S. release of her second album Watching You Think, Montreal based singer/songwriter NEeMA has announced a European tour, beginning June 10th at Schlossplatz in Stuttgart, Germany.

In addition to her series of headlining club dates at intimate venues across the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Sweden and more, NEeMA has also received backing from Jeff Beck, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper and Elton John to support them at select tour dates across the continent.

A protégé of Leonard Cohen, who co-produced the album with Pierre Marchand (Rufus Wainwright, Ron Sexsmith), NEeMA follows in the tradition of singer/songwriters from Joni Mitchell to Judee Sill and Laura Nyro.  She is a much-travelled troubadour, with a poetic soul and charisma that has seen rave reviews in her native Canada and feted by the likes of The Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, and Paste Magazine in the US.

Fans will go Gaga for the 2011 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS as MuchMusic has announced more blockbuster performers. Set to rock the block at MuchMusic HQ in Toronto this month are Bruno Mars, The Black Keys, Avril Lavigne, and City and Colour. Co-hosted by screen and music superstar Selena Gomez, these A-List performers join previously announced Queen of Pop, Lady Gaga, on the MMVAs stage. The fan-tastic event goes down live on Sunday, June 19 at 9 p.m. ET on MuchMusic and Fuse in the U.S., with the MMVAs RED CARPET SPECIAL at 8 p.m. ET.

“I’m really looking forward to performing on the MMVAs,” said Bruno Mars. “It’s my first time doing all this stuff and I find it all very exciting, I hope all my fans in Canada enjoy my performance.”

Hailing from Toronto, but sounding more akin to the hybrid electro-noir sounds coming out of Berlin and London, THE FUTURELESS return with Futura2, the second EP installment in the FUTURA triptych release series, out this June the 13th.

A brief history on the band takes us back to 2009 when The Futureless met prolific indie producer Shawn Lefebvre (Dragonette, Muse, LA Guns, Cancer Bats) and began recording what would become the Futura Triptych: 3 separate EPs with a seamless, cognitive thread. Sean-Patrick, one-third of the trio (all incidentally named Sean/Shawn/Shaun) elaborated on the concept -  “Each part of the triptych is a microcosm of the whole with peaks and valleys; ebbs and flows both singularly and totally. Futura2 is the middle of the triptych so it has some added weight to it. Futura2 takes you from the more pop-oriented “Future Perfect” and “Break Blow Burn” but quickly dissolves into the dark, trip-hop influenced “Waiting For Rain” and the melancholic “Modular Hope”.

In 2010, the band released Futura as a way to test their sound with audiences and critics. With very little hype, Futura garnered international praise, college radio air-play (peaking at #25 on Earshot!) and was lauded by the online blog community in Canada, US, UK, Netherlands and New Zealand. Based on the success of the soft and scant release of Futura, the band recently re-released Futura, but this time with the added bonus of having made the EP available for purchase via a digital distribution deal with Island Records.

The Futureless will release Futura2 on June 13 2011. Their moody pop sound echoes the 80’s but shows a definitive movement towards a new, modern style some have called “post-dance”. The Futureless’ rigorous touring plans include cities across North America and Canada throughout the remainder of the year, with a full tour schedule out shortly. To keep our appetites whet in the meantime, the guys have just finished working with Swedish electronic musician/producer Anders Ilar on remixes and several original songs to be released both here and overseas.

This is your first time playing at Stereo. What does this gig mean to you?

It’s one of the highlights of our career so far.   It’s coming full circle for us, partying there back in the day and wishing we could play on that amazing soundsystem. Stereo is a landmark venue and anyone who gets to experience it is truly blessed.  Big thank you to Carlo Lio, Maher Daniel, Tommy and the whole Stereo crew for having us, La Familia is coming!

For those that have never visited Stereo, how would you describe the Stereo experience?

The Stereo experience is a warm welcoming environment.  First thing that comes to mind is family.  As well, the amazing decor, sound and lighting capture what afterhours should be. It’s something that needs to be experienced in person.

Who are some of your favourite Montreal DJs/producers?

Maher Daniel is producing amazing music and has carved out a great name for himself locally and internationally.  He’s someone that helped put the Montreal sound back on the map.  Hakiem Guelmi is another young DJ that we played with, his sets have been stellar and he throws some great parties.

What are some of your favourite places to eat/hang when you are in Montreal?

St-Hubert and Schwartz Deli of course!!!

What’s on tap for Local Music in 2011?

Our next release is from our very good friend Massimo Girardi featuring a remix by newcomer Clio.  We also have original tracks & remixes from artists such as Santos, Carlo Lio, Leland McWilliams, Santé plus many more and we’ll make our debut on the label in 2011.  We plan on hosting events that will be featuring artists from the label later this year.  A lot is going on so stay tuned!

Can you tell us what made you commit to a residency at Stereo?

Stereo’s one of the best afterhours I’ve been to, and it was Stereo’s “family” environment that sold me. I can’t begin to explain how comfortable I feel when I am there, not only as a DJ but as a patron. They have done a brilliant job at Stereo and I’m excited to be a part of it. 

You last played Stereo with Dubfire in April 2010, Dubfire had high praise on Twitter after the gig, can you describe this memorable night?

What a turning point, I was totally blown away! I had an amazing set that was well received from the enthusiastic Montreal crowd. Everything was perfect; the sound, crowd, staff.  The night couldn’t have gone better. There was a ton of excitement for Dubfire, of course, and he rocked it, a 6 hour set says it all. You never want to stop when you’re at Stereo. We left a great mark that night.

You’ve played many afterhours internationally, what makes playing at Stereo so special?

I’ve played many countries and afterhours, but 99% of the time there’s always something about a club that could be different or better. Stereo is that remaining 1% where it’s difficult to find something to critique. The one thing that sets Stereo apart is the sound. It’s absolutely incredible. Everywhere should sound like Stereo. You can tell how much time, effort, blood, sweat and tears have been put into it.  They captured the essence of afterhours. You could move Stereo   anywhere in Europe and it would fit perfectly.

What is the concept behind the “La Familia” residency at Stereo?

The concept is simple. It’s playing with guests I love and feel close to, on a personal and influential level. Talents that helped mould me into the artist I am today. I consider these people family and for this we present “La Familia”.

What are the plans for Rawthentic Music in 2011?

I am shaping Rawthentic’s sound, going after the artists that represent my vision. The quality of releases constantly improves and we’re trying to push the new breed of producers. There are some Rawthentic parties coming in the near future. So keep an eye out  I stay true to my roots and love that Rawthentic has become an internationally recognized underground label, and I plan to keep it that way.

Black Friday shopping can definitely be overwhelming but with these 5 tips we hope to make this busy and sometimes stressful shopping day a bit easier.

1.       Go Online

This is number one because In this day and age you don’t have to head over to the mall and deal with the madness to take advantage of black Friday shopping. Now the offers are available to you from the comfort of your own home. Many of your favourite online stores and boutiques will have their prices slashed on black Friday as well as Cyber Monday. Be sure to go online early though, some retailers will kick off their sales at midnight thanksgiving day.

2.       Be Prepared

Check out the ads before hand in your Thanksgiving day newpaper and online to get an idea of what deals will be available. Know the stores you want to visit in advance. Trust me, you don’t want to be wandering around the mall on Black Friday. Make a list of exactly what you’re looking for whether it be a 42” HDTV or a pair of skinny jeans to keep yourself focused once in the stores. If you’re shopping for Christmas gifts for family and friends make sure you write down all the people you’ll be shopping for and the items you want to find for them.  Also be aware that “leaked” Black Friday ads from all the top stores – Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Kmart, Sears, Kohl’s, Toys R US, etc are all out there floating around online.

3.       Get There Early

Many stores will have greater deals and deeper discounts  in the morning before 10 or 11 or noon. Door busters are usually very early in the morning, sometimes as early as 5am! If you are shopping for big-ticket, electronic items go for those first as those items are usually available in limited quantities and will sell out first.

4.       Be Comfortable

You may be pushed in crowds or waiting in line in excess of an hour! Opt to wear sneakers instead of heels and comfortable clothes. Eat something before you leave you don’t want your stomach to be growling as you run to grab the last iPhone on sale. Bring a bottle of water. You may have to wait outside so make sure you wear layers to keep you warm and also so you can take some items off once inside.

5.       Shop Smart

Just because it is on sale doesn’t mean you should buy it, especially big-ticket, expensive items. Many times items on sale will include undesirable brands and refurbished items. Make sure you do your research on the products and brands that you really want and that you know will last you in the long run. Try not to impulse shop.

World famous DJ, Tiesto is set to take on a Las Vegas residency in 2011. While it’s 100% confirmed, many details of the residency are still hush hush. Until today, the only information given has been the website tiestovegas.com and numerous billboards and ads around Vegas only mentioning the words Tiesto Las Vegas Residency 2011.

For the past couple weeks most people have been guessing that the residency will take place either at a Angel Management Group or a Light Group managed venue. Now I’ve done some digging and did a search on twitter for “Tiesto Vegas.” I found out Tiesto himself just confirmed today on his twitter page @tiesto that his residency will be taking place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino!

We’re still not sure if it will be at Vanity, Hard Rock Pool (already famous for it’s Rehab party,) or if they will re-open Body English for Tiesto. I’m really hoping they do a combination of nightlife and daylife weekly sets, as dancing to his beats outside at the pool on a weekly basis would be amazing.

We’ll be sure to update everyone as we find out more information on this exciting news!

Michelle “Bombshell” McGee hosted a party at Tryst nightclub in Toronto this past Saturday night. Jesse James’ controversial former lover made the trip to Toronto last weekend for the hosting gig and to film a commercial for AshleyMadison.com - an online dating site for people in relationships. Very classy.

Michelle was accompanied to Tryst with ET Canada’s Roz Weston, while ET Canada filmed a segment for their show. McGee, who is famous for being “the other woman” in the Jesse James/Sandra Bullock marriage scandal, partied in the VIP throughout the night and took photos with friends, club staff, and fans… who knew she had fans?

Eliades Ochoa from Buenavista Social Club will be making his only Canadian stop in Toronto next weekend, Friday, April 23rd & Saturday, April 24th, 2010; playing at The Royal on College Street.

Buenavista Social Club guitarist/singer Eliades Ochoa is one the living testaments to the universal popularity of Cuban ’son’ music. Eliades Ochoa picked up his first instrument at the age of six and  by his early teens he was leader of the legendary group Cuarteto Patria.  Not long after, Eliades Ochoa was recruited into the Buenavista Social Club, where he became instantly recognizable worldwide for the recording and film of his performance of the traditional Cuban song “Chan Chan” with the late Compay Segundo. Ochoa’s roots are in guajira (Cuban country music) and his trademark cowboy hat and penchant for wearing black have led some to dub him “Cuba’s Johnny Cash”.

Since that time Eliades Ochoa and his group have toured over 40 countries, released several recordings, and keeping the sound of traditional Cuban “son” music alive for audiences all over the world. Last seen in Toronto at Massey Hall, this presentation in April 2010 sees Eliades Ochoa and his group perform an intimate show in the recently renovated Art Deco Royal Theatre in Toronto’s Little Italy area. With a limited number of 400 seats only each night, these concerts will be a once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity to see some of the finest “son” music performed in a  unique concert setting with fantastic sight-lines in all seats and a state of the art sound system.

Dan Aykroyd attended The Nightclub & Bar Convention and Trade Show which took place in Las Vegas earlier this month. The funny man kicked off the convention, which celebrated its 25th year, on March 9th with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and delivered a keynote address the following day.

Uniq Lifestyle from Toronto has partnered with Mystery Entertainment, Dynamite Events, Voice Marketing, the EL Agency and Saint Woods in Montreal to host a three-day festival that will include stops at Las Vegas’ most popular bars, nightclubs and hotels.

Some of the spectacular venues on the itinerary include Vanity at the Hard Rock Hotel, the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino’s Wet Republic’s Ultra Pool, and Eve at the brand new City Centre Hotel & Casino. Hundreds of Canadians have already signed up for Exodus, and it’s being predicted that in coming years, Exodus will see thousands of Canucks participating.

“It’s almost like Canada is invading Vegas - anything you want to find you can find there,” says organizer Andrew Christoforou. “I have been in the nightclub business for 11 years in Toronto, and after I partied in Vegas I nearly lost my mind over how these clubs and pool parties were built. It’s like an adult fantasy playground. Las Vegas is a city that must be experienced by everyone!”

DJs from every province across Canada have been booked to appear at daytime, evening and after-hours parties. This monumental event will be profiled in a feature in the upcoming issue of Urban Male Magazine.

Exodus Festival is the first event of its kind, and will take place on the most popular travel weekend of the year – Victoria Day long-weekend. Canadians will unite and celebrate surviving another long winter by letting loose in Sin City May 22-24, 2010.

Canadian reggaeton artist and songwriter, Fito Blanko, just announced the release of his new single from his record label Crown Loyalty Entertainment. The single entitled “MAMBO” featuring Drake was written by Fito Blanko and produced by Sensei.

Christina Aguilera and Nicole Richie brought in the New Year in Las Vegas! The pair shared the red carpet as they were both hosting TAO Group events for New Year’s Eve. Christina hosted Tao Nightclub’s NYE party at the Venetian and Nicole hosted NYE at Lavo Nightclub inside the Palazzo.

After hitting the red carpet the lovely ladies parted ways. Christina headed over to Tao where she was joined by husband Jordan Bratman, her sister, and backup dancers. The group dined at Tao restaurant before heading upstairs to a VIP sky box inside the nightclub. The crowd went wild when the superstar hit the stage just before midnight to countdown to 2010.

Meanwhile, over at Lavo Nightclub Nicole was joined by beau Joel Madden who was also the special guest DJ for the night. Nicole jumped up on Lavo’s catwalk just before midnight for the countdown to 2010, taking photos of the crowd with her camera. After the countdown she joined Joel in the DJ booth for the rest of his set.

For a second year in a row the TTC along with the Toronto Entertainment Alliance are providing FREE TTC service on New Year’s Eve, January 1st 2009 from 12:01 a.m. - 4 a.m.

It’s expected that over 100,000 people will ride the TTC between midnight and 4 a.m. on January 1st, 2010 and the Toronto Entertainment Alliance, headed by president and CEO of Liberty Entertainment Group Nick Di Donato, wants to ensure that the city gets home safe.

Uniq Lifestyle, the lifestyle company that owns some of Toronto’s swankiest nightclubs and lounges, including Brant House, Atelier Noir, Cheval and Maro, was host to many of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival after parties.

Brant House hosted the after party for the film Solitary Man, which stars Michael Douglas, Danny Devito, Susan Sarandon, and Mary-Louise Parker. Douglas was spotted in the VIP area, as well as french DJ Michael Canitrot.

During the 10 day film fest Brant House also threw a special tribute party to the best soundtracks in film, featuring an extra special DJ set by Mix Master Mike of The Beastie Boys.

At Atelier Noir, rock legend and U2 frontman Bono, film director Neil Jordon, and actor Colin Farrell were spotted enjoyed the post screening party for the film Ondine, which stars Farrell.

Atelier Noir also hosted the Get Low screening after party which brought in veteran actors Robert Duvall, Bill Murray, and Sissy Spacek, who all star in the film.

Another Uniq property, Cheval held numerous film fest parties. Including a celebratory opening party featuring Cannes Film Festival DJ Michael Canitrot on the 1s and 2s. 

With actress Penelope Cruz spotted mingling and enjoying the night’s festivities. 

Cheval also hosted the after party for Leaves of Grass, staring Edward Norton, Keri Russell, Susan Sarandon, and Richard Dreyfuss. 

Edward Norton, Kerri Russel, and Danny Devito with wife Rhea Perlman and daughter Lucy Devito were in attendance and singer/rapper K-OS took over the DJ booth for the night.

Cheval was also host to after parties for films Coco Before Chanel, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and threw a TIFF closing party partnering with Myntlounge Miami and featuring special guest DJ Keidy.

Also spotted at Uniq Lifestyle venues during this film fest were rapper and actor Snoop Dogg and Toronto Maple Leaf hockey players, Mike Komisarek, Luke Schenn and Garnett Exelby.

King West hotspot Brassaii Bistro Lounge has been host to quite a few stars during this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

On Saturday night the restaurant hosted a celebratory dinner for the cast and crew of the movie “Up in the Air,” directed by Jason Reitman and staring George Clooney, Jason Bateman, Vera Farmiga, Melanie Lynskey, and Anna Kendrick.

The cast and crew were in attendance along with actors Bill Murray, Amanda Seyfried and Rachelle Lefevre.

On Monday night actors Geoffrey Rush and Sam Neill were spotted at Brassaii in the Private Room enjoying a bottle of Australian wine.

The 2009 Brazilian Carnival Ball took place on Saturday night in Toronto. The Ball, held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, celebrated more than 43 years of dance, music and friendship while raising over $2.6 million for the SickKids Research Institute.

The who’s who of Toronto’s arts, fashion, political and business communities were in attendance for this special event. To date, the Ball has raised over $55.6 million for numerous causes in healthcare, research, education and culture.

Nicole Richie was in Toronto yesterday afternoon promoting the launch of her jewelry collection House of Harlow 1960 (named after her daughter) at Holt Renfrew on Bloor Street. 

Nicole, who is expecting her second child with Joel Madden, looked radiant as she posed for photographers wearing a black and gold tunic dress, black stockings and jewelry from her new collection.

Later in the evening Nicole headed back to Holt Renfrew to attend a special invite-only bash co-hosted by Fashion Magazine to celebrate her launch and Holt’s new third-floor Contemporary floor. 

Nicole lived up to her fashionista reputation in a beaded dress layered over a black tank and stockings which she of course accessorized with House of Harlow 1960 jewelry.

Adult film star Tera Patrick hosted the “Lingeriegasm” last night at LAVO Las Vegas. Patrick arrived with husband Evan Seinfeld of The Spyderz and posed on the red carpet with models clad in sexy designs from Seven Til Midnight, I Basic Intima and Ed Hardy Lingerie. 

The always affectionate couple flirted on the red carpet and Seinfeld even lifted his shirt to proudly display the tattoo of his wife along the side of his torso.  The group headed in to dine on selections from LAVO’s new Italian menu before journeying up to the nightclub where a bevy of beauties in lingerie were waiting.  The sexy sirens strutted along the LAVO stage, competing for a $1000 cash prize as Patrick judged.  Jeannie Duffy was awarded the winning prize and the entire club celebrated by partying to the sounds of DJ FIVE.

Perfect weather set the stage this past Saturday for the season opening of TAO Beach in Las Vegas.  Actress, singer and newlywed Mandy Moore played host, relaxing in a cabana and was even caught Twittering “Vegas. Tao Beach. Wow!!! Beautiful day, yummy food, amazing people watching…”

Also enjoying the day was Owen Wilson, in town with his brother Andrew and a few friends. Before hitting TAO Beach, Wilson grabbed lunch at Dos Caminos inside The Palazzo, munching on the famed guacamole and other favorites, the generous actor left a $100 poker chip as a tip.

Angie Harmon, showing off a svelte post-baby figure, decided to spend the day with a girlfriend at TAO Beach while hubby Jason Sehorn golfed.  Harmon surprised her husband with a Vegas trip to celebrate his 38^th birthday, which was last Wednesday.  

Harmon was just one of the celebs that gossip blogger Perez Hilton met while he was at TAO Beach.  Perez walked the carpet wearing a Papa Smurf t-shirt paired with silver and white shoes that caught the eye of the photographers.

Krysten Ritter arrived with music video director boyfriend Scott Culver.  The affectionate couple lounged on a daybed inside a cabana near Dancing With the Stars pro Karina Smirnoff.

Across the pool the party heated up inside a cabana where Lil Jon, Reggie Bush, Brody Jenner and his girlfriend Playmate of the Year Jayde Nicole had gathered along with poker pros Phil Hellmuth and Antonio Esfandiari. 

NFL pro Bush took photos with his girlfriend Kim Kardashian’s step-brother Jenner and Lil Jon, but out of respect for Kim who was not in Vegas, wouldn’t take pictures with any other women.

The 2009 MuchMusic Video Awards show is going to be bigger and better than ever as the Jonas Brothers (Kevin, Joe, and Nick) are set to co-host and perform at one of Canada’s hottest yearly events taking place on Sunday, June 21.

To the delight of teenage girls everywhere the band will perform brand new music from their new album, Lines, Vines and Trying Times, out on June 15 for the MMVA crowd. All of this just one day after they launch the Jonas Brothers 2009 World Tour that will take them across North America, Latin America, and Europe.

Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva who was on hosting duties for the night was in great spirits as he walked the red carpet taking photos with the XYIENCE girls, including XYIENCE spokesmodel Amber Nichole.

Silva, quite the gracious host, was seen taking photos with fans and having a great time.

Eddie Cibrian was spotted getting cozy with his wife, Brandi Cibrian, last night at LAVO Las Vegas inside the Palazzo Hotel & Casino last night.

Eddie, who has recently been thrown into the media spotlight amidst rumors of an affair with country singer LeAnn Rimes, couldn’t take his eyes off of his wife as they enjoyed dinner and dancing with several friends at LAVO for an “adults only” night out.

On Saturday, April 18th, Club Opera and XYIENCE will host the official UFC 97: Redemption After-Party in Montreal. Wanderlei Silva will host the party while UFC announcer Bruce Buffer will be the master of ceremonies. 

If you’re a UFC fan, Club Opera will definitely be the place to be after the UFC fight. Silva and Buffer will walk Club Opera’s red carpet at 12:45 a.m., joining them will be former UFC ring girl turned XYIENCE spokesmodel Amber Nichole, and UFC cutman Jacob “Stitch” Duran.

Also on Saturday, Silva will be signing autographs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the XYIENCE area of the MMA ZONE, a tented area located in the parking lot of the Bell Centre. The MMA Zone will be open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and includes prize giveaways, a Xenergy drink sampling, live broadcast of “Between the Rounds” radio show, clothing from MMA ZONE, and the makers of the “UFC Undisputed” video game will showcase the latest UFC game.

And if you’ve always wanted to be a MMA model, Club Seven will be hosting the MMA Authority Magazine’s Model Search Contest on Thursday, April 16th.  Amber Nichole will judge and the winner will be named the magazine’s first official Canadian Authority cover girl.  Doors open for this event at 10 p.m. and the contest starts at 11 p.m.

XYIENCE in Montreal – UFC 97 features middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva, who will be defending his crown against number one contender Thales Leites in the main event. Silva has already defended his title more times than anyone in UFC middleweight history and will battle Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Leites, winner of five in a row. Also featured in the UFC’s return to Canada is the light heavyweight showdown fans have waited for years to see, as UFC legend Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell squares off against Brazilian superstar Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in what promises to be one of the most explosive bouts of 2009.

Toronto’s LG Fashion Week kicked off last night with David Dixon and a tribute to Barbie. In Barbie’s honor, a pink carpet was rolled out to the tents entrance.

Inside the tents Hype1 spotted comedian and Deal or No Deal’s Howie Mandel, Actress and former model Canadian Monika Schnarre, Canadian Idol host Ben Mulroney, Fashion Television’s Glen Baxter, FDCC’s Head Robin Kay, and the who’s who of Canada’s fashion industry.

Dixon started the night with his Fall 09 collection runway show, followed by a special Barbie by David Dixon collection in celebration of Barbie’s 50th anniversary.

The show was followed by a special Barbie 50th Anniversary after party.

Adult film cross-over star, Sasha Grey, celebrated her 21st birthday last night at TAO Las Vegas. Sasha, who has a starring role in Steven Soderbergh’s new film “The Girlfriend Experience,” was accompanied by friends including Smashing Pumpkins front man, Billy Corgan. The group started their night at TAO Asian Bistro, where they enjoyed dinner and birthday cake.

Backstreet Boy AJ McLean arrived at the tail of the meal, just in time to head to the nightclub where Sasha’s birthday celebration continued.

Another former boy band star and N’Sync member, Lance Bass, was at a VIP table nearby and AJ stop by to say hello. Lance was celebrating the birthday of his assistant with friends.

Also spotted at TAO last night was actress Brittany Snow at a VIP table on the dance floor.

Meanwhile over at LAVO inside the Palazzo, Whitney Port was seen continuing celebrations for her sisters bachelorette weekend. The girls enjoyed dinner inside LAVO restaurant and then headed up to the club, where they were spotted jumping up on the couches to dance at their VIP table when 80’s hits “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Let’s Hear It For The Boy” were played.

MTV’s “The City” star, Whitney Port, hit TAO Las Vegas last night to celebrate her sister Ashley’s bachelorette party. Whitney fulfilled her maid of honor duties by throwing Ashley an amazing party!

The group, which included sisters Jade and Paige as well as close girlfriends, started the night at TAO’s restaurant under the watchful eye of the TAO Buddha.

Following dinner, the girls headed upstairs to let loose at a VIP table in the nightclub where Ashley was surprised with champagne, sparklers and cupcakes as they danced the night away to the sounds of DJ Reach.

One of Las Vegas’ most prestigious nightlife groups, The Light Group, has been honoured with two nominations for ClubWorld Magazine’s 2009 Club World Awards; which will be handed out in Miami during WMC next month. Both JET Nightclub at The Mirage and The Bank Nightclub at Bellagio were recognized with the following nominations:

The Vegas BlondeShell Awards was another signature event produced by Steven Lockwood, JET’s marketing director.  For the event, 200 of Sin City’s hottest girls competed for a chance to win a Customized Pink BlondeShell Corvette. Each contestant worked the VIP tables and dance floor by passing out her BlondeShell business card which included her photograph and a designated text code. Patrons then voted by texting in the number of their favorite vixen. The girl with the most text votes was declared the winner and drove off in the fabulous Corvette.

Sunset Tan’s Holly Huddleston hosted TAO Nightclub’s annual Blondetourage party on Thursday night.  The blonde beauty posed for photos on the red carpet and then enjoyed dinner with friends at TAO Asian Bistro, dining on several dishes including lobster wontons and assorted sushi platters.

Joaquin Phoenix was at LAVO on Friday night, not to make the regular celebrity/host appearance that Las Vegas nightclubs are now know for, but to rap.

The Oscar nominated actor turned rapper is filming his transition with fellow actor and brother-in-law Casey Affleck for an upcoming documentary following his new career into music. It’s also said that P. Diddy will produce his upcoming debut album.

Now we’re still trying to figure out if this is for real or for the video cameras, possibly a new satire movie about a famed actor turned failed rapper. I mean that in the nicest ways - I’ve always respected Joaquin as an actor and also think he seems like a cool guy in real life. But why is the actor who has always shunned away from the media now letting cameras follow his every move?

Phoenix took LAVO’s stage performing three hip-hop tracks for screaming fans, throughout the tracks he mumbled, yelled, smoked and ended his performance by falling off the stage.

Joaquin told People Magazine while at LAVO, “This is me saying this is who I am. This is my story. After all the years of reading scripts and reading lines, this is my chance to do something straight from the heart and put it out there.”

Saturday night saw Tera Patrick hosting a special afterparty at LAVO inside the Palazzo for the 2009 AVN awards. 

She brought along the Girls from Vivid and the guest emcee for the night was Gary Dell’Abate aka Bababooey from The Howards Stern Show.

Tera headed straight over to LAVO following the AVN awards with her husband Evan Seinfeld. The pair were in great spirits as Tera had just been inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame! Rock star Dave Navarro hosted the 1st Pornstar Ball at TAO Las Vegas Friday night. Joining Dave in hosting duties was adult film superstar Tera Patrick as mistress of ceremonies and guest DJ.

Tera arrived with a group of friends and her husband Evan Seinfeld. The happy couple were also celebrating their 5 year wedding anniversary on Friday night and looked very much in love while posing for photos on the red carpet.

Dave was chauffeured to TAO in the TAO/LAVO mini Escalade after enjoying dinner at LAVO and was joined by friends and girlfriend Lindsey Hartley.

The second edition of Minutes to Midnight at the Berkley Church is on pace to surpass the successful event last year. The Berkley Church is a heritage venue, having been around since 1874 and Minutes to Midnight is one of the most talked about New Years Eve events from last year. Heading into 2009, the anticipation for this event is at a high level.

This venue boasts two rooms with Toronto heavyweights as DJ Undercover and Marko Bongo in Victoria’s Ballroom while Geoff Brown and Vinyl Poetry are in Elizabeth’s Hall. For your consideration, the ticket price is all inclusive.

The long running New Years Eve party at Liberty Grand combines a diverse group of promotional companies for an event that consistently draws 5000 people throughout the whole complex. The dinner has a limited capacity of 800 guests.

Liberty Grand has two rooms and two different sounds with The Artifacts Room playing the best of house music headlined by Aubrey Richards and Ramy vs. David. The Governors Room features Crunch, Joe Ghost and Mike Toste.

For a diverse New Years Eve event, Arrival at Sound Academy is an excellent choice. This will have a mix of gay and straight partiers and this party will go until the morning. Pablo Ceballos of the Spanish mega duo, Chus and Ceballos headlines this party alongside Def Mix artist Hector Romero. Pablo Ceballos has always been a strong draw in the Toronto scene and combined with another big name in house music the vibe, energy and party are sure to be off the charts. Mexico’s Isaac Escalante and local DJ Addy round out the rest of this bill. This one is going late!

Magic at the Guvernment Entertainment Complex featuring Guvernment favourites. Tickets $40, $55, $60 general admission. From 9pm to 9am. Style code in effect. 132 Queens Quay East.

The Guvernment for any special event is always a good choice and on New Year’s Eve it is an excellent bet as one of the world’s most renowned venues throws an incredible NYE party. The Guvernment is presenting a strong offering of local talent such as the Junkies, Carlo Lio, Mark Oliver, etc and will attract a good legion of Guvernment faithful as well as people coming in from out of town to party. This twelve hour party will be a marathon, so pacing is a wise idea.

With many rooms to wander off in and celebrate with local and tourist crowd, Magic at the Guvernment will be simply that.

Super star Tom Cruise is currently in Toronto promoting his new movie Valkyrie, which opens Christmas Day.  The actor stopped by MuchMusic Headquarters yesterday to film for MuchOnDemand where he talked about the film and even judged a “risky” video game guitar battle.  During his visit Cruise signed autographs and posed with fans outside of the building.

The past few years Cruise has been more known for his relationship with Katie Holmes and his religous beliefs then his acting abilites. But with his most recent hilarious guest appearance in the movie Tropic Thunder and his upcoming movie Valkyrie, hopefully audiences will steer their focus on his movies.

The Oscar De La Hoya-Manny Pacquiao fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena brought in a slew of celebs to Las Vegas this past weekend.

The celebrity turnout at the fight included actor Russell Crowe, Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria-Parker, Mario Lopez, Palms head huncho George Maloof, singer Marc Anthony, Will Farrell, Luke Wilson, Black Eyed Peas Will.i.am, Basketball legend Charles Barkley, Usher, George Lopez, Tito Ortiz with girlfriend and mother-to-be Jenna Jameson, former boxer Mike Tyson, as well as many others.

Following the fight Russell Crowe, Eva Longoria-Parker, Marc Anthony and Mario Lopez headed to LAVO Nightclub to let off some steam and dance for a couple hours. Following LAVO the group piled into LAVO’s custom Escalade golf cart that took them through the casino to TAO Nightclub where they continued the party at a dance floor VIP table.  Shortly after they arrived the group was joined by R&B superstar Usher.

Also spotted at TAO Nightclub was Black Eyed Peas Will.i.am who partied with a group of 10 friends at a dance floor VIP table stocked with Grey Goose and Patron.

Back at LAVO basketball legend Charles Barkley was seen enjoying a night out with friends post-fight.

Remember Aaron Carter… Nick Carter’s little brother, the teen heartthrob that dated Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff.  Well he’s all grown up now and celebrated his 21st birthday Saturday night along with his twin sister Angel at TAO Las Vegas.

Older brother Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys played host for the night aranging a trip for his siblings to Las Vegas and coordinating dinner at TAO Asian Bistro for a group of 15 close friends.

After dinner the group headed upstairs to TAO Nightclub where they took over a VIP skybox. Nick surprised Aaron and Angel with a birthday cake to celebrate their special day and no later then the candles were out, Angel covered Aaron’s face in cake as everyone roared with laughter.

Superstar Oscar winning actor and TAO Nightclub regular, Jamie Foxx, partied at the popular nightclub last night with a huge entourage of 30 friends.  The crew took over a dance floor table, where Foxx grabbed the mic and put on a show for everyone at TAO Nightclub.  The actor gave shout outs to the crowd and reminded everyone about his upcoming album that will be hitting stores December 16th - hey, a little self promotion never hurt anyone!  Foxx was also on the hunt for sexy ladies to join his group, shining his trusty flashlight on the crowd to single out gorgeous young women ready to get up and shake it for him.

Also in the house last night was actor Wilmer Valderrama, who also got on the mic for a few minutes to battle it out beatboxing with Jamie Foxx. Wilmer, then made his way back to his dance floor table where he enjoyed the rest of the night with friends, ladies and a bottle of Patron!

The celebrity sighting doesn’t stop there!  Singer, songwriter and producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds was at TAO last night hosting his brothers bachelor party in one of the secluded skyboxes. Also spotted last night were HBO’s “True Blood’s” co-star Mehcad Brooks who enjoyed a private skybox with eight friends, Janice Dickinson’s son Nathan Fields, who co-stars in the reality show “The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency;” and in a seperate party “The Office” actor Brian Baumgartner who was back at TAO partying a second night in a row.

Last night, TAO Las Vegas saw “Zack And Miri Make A Porno’s,” Jason Mewes serving as host for the evening.  Joining Jason were his fiancee Jordan Monsanto and adult actress Katie Morgan, who co-stars in Zack and Miri.

The trio started their night dining at TAO restaurant before heading up to dance the night away inside TAO Nightclub where they drank no alcohol, only Red Bull, water and soda to keep their energy up!

You probably can’t tell by the pictures, but Jason is most well know for playing the role of Jay of the infamous duo Jay and Silent Bob in Kevin Smith films, such as “Clerks,” “Mallrats,” “Dogma” and “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”

Posh hotel chain, Morgans Hotel Group, is set to unveil it’s third South Beach hotel, Mondrian South Beach, with the first reservations set for December 1st. For the opening, Morgans is offering a special introductory rate on hotel stays at the Mondrian, starting from $195 in limited supply through February 28th, 2009.

South Beach is the latest in an exclusive collection of cities, including Scottsdale and Los Angeles, that welcomes the Mondrian brand. It will be the first hotel outside of the Netherlands designed by Marcel Wanders, one of Fast Company’s 2008 “Masters of Design.” The hotel will feature Morgan’s world-renowned Auga Spa and Jeffrey Chodorow’s latest Asia de Cuba restaurant.

Superstar diva Mariah Carey was in Vegas this weekend filming her new music video directed by husband Nick Cannon, “I Stay in Love” at The Bank Nightclub inside the Bellagio and also serving as host at the posh nightclub Saturday night.

Mariah started off Saturday night dinning at Yellowtail Sushi Restaurant & Bar with her husband Nick Cannon and six of their friends. The group had prime seating overlooking the infamous Bellagio fountains enjoying food and drinks. Chef Akira Back personally welcomed Cannon and Carey, who both posed for pictures with the chef.

After dinner the newleyweds arrived at The Bank Nightclub hand-in-hand as fans went wild trying catch a glimpse of the famous superstar. Mariah quickly posed for photographers on the red carpet and then made her way into the club to cap off the night.

Cheval was packed on Friday night with tons of hot girls hoping to get the attention of Doug Reinhardt from the hit reality television show, The Hills. Cheval was filled with a hot young crowd that knew how to party!

Much like his womanizer television friend Body Jenner, Doug was sucking back the vodka, calling hot chicks to his VIP booth, and pouring liquor down their throats. Every girl in the club was trying to catch his attention by shaking it in front of his booth on the dance floor. Doug along with some of his crew left the club around 2ish with a few hot girls, I’m sure they had a great after party.

I have never seen a line so big, as the line in front of Ultra Supper Club on Friday night. Hundreds of Lindsay Lohan fans were lined up hoping to catch a glimpse of her and her rumored finace Samantha Ronson.

At 1:15 am Samantha Ronson made her appearance and started spinning shortly after. She was soon followed by Lindsay Lohan who quickly posed on the red carpet wearing a large ring on her wedding finger, Lindsay’s rep quickly squashed any engagement rumors.  After posing, a huge security entourage wisked her through the crowd, sitting her at a VIP booth beside Samantha in the DJ booth. While Sam spun a great set, Lindsay sat in the booth puffing on smokes and drinking water.

The music and vibe was great. When I left at 2 am, there were still many people trying to get into Ultra! It was definitely the hottest party to be at on Friday night.

Boy George, wearing his trademark hat and eye makeup, played for the good looking packed house along with DJ Mark Vedo - the duo having just worked on a new Koolwaters compilation.

Celebrities in attendance included Canadian singer/songwriter Jarvis Church, NHL player and Vogue intern Sean Avery, actor D.B. Sweeney, and NHL player Derek Roy.

Paris Hilton and Benji Madden looked more in love then ever during their special appearance at Ultra Supper Club in Toronto last night.

The pair walked the red carpet together posing for photographers and fans. Once inside Benji, who was guest DJ for the night, got on the decks while Paris danced by his side, sipping on Rich Prosecco sparkling wine in a can. 

The couple looked very much in love as they whispered in each others ears and smiled at each other throughout the night.

Paris is in Toronto for the screening of her new documentary, “Paris, Not France,” which is being showcased during the Toronto International Film Festival.

On Friday night, Spice Route held one of the most anticipated and probably one of the hardest parties to get into at this years film fest, The Burn After Reading Film Fest After Party.A mob of fans and photographers surrounded Spice Route’s entrance hoping to catch a glimpse of the A-list stars in attendance, especially Hollywood hunk and Burn After Reading star Brad Pitt. Unfortunately for all, he snuck in through the back entrance.

Cast members Tilda Swinton, John Malkovich and Frances McDormand joined Pitt inside, along with Joel and Ethan Coen who both directed and wrote the film.

MINI IS THE MAXI: With this collection, Betsey was all but yelling it out “The mini dress is where it’s at!” Whether knit or satin, flare or straight, modern or retro, the mini dress ruled the catwalk. This little number is big on style. Find your perfect mini, add a great pair of shoes and you’re good to go.

2. RUFFLE IT UP: Nothing says “I’m a girl” like ruffles. This show was feminine with a capital F, with tiers and tiers of ruffles on skirts, dresses and tops. Pretty Frufru knocked Tough Girl Butch right out of the ring.

3. SASH HIT: Tie it all up with a big bow! That seems to be the idea, as almost all of these party dresses sported an empire waist sash, often in a contrasting color to the dress. In real life, many of us might forego the big bow tied in front, but if subtlety isn’t your cup of tea, by all means go for it!

4. THE BLING IS STILL BLINGIN’: We saw lots of sparkle, from sequined dresses to studded bags to bejeweled shoes. The moral of the story: if you really want to shine, you’re outfit needs a little shine too.

5. PASTEL IS PASSE: Wimpy colours were nowhere to be seen. Strong hues like purple, periwinkle, emerald green, hot pink, and yellow are the way to go for your party-going palette, of course with basic black to anchor it all.

6. HIGH STYLE ON SHORT ORDER: High-waisted short shorts are back again this season. They manage to be sophisticated and sexy at the same time. Done in denim or black with heels, they turn “leggy” into “legtastic”.

7. PRINTS ARE MINT: Prints were ever-popular. Classic plaid made its presence felt, done in red and black. And cartoon prints in bright colours on black reminded us not to take things too seriously, and have a sense of humor when putting ourselves together.

8. A MOTION FOR NOTIONS: It’s all in the details, right? Well, details got the Oscar for best supporting role in this show. From fat retro buttons to flower appliqués, they were everywhere. Something to keep an eye out for when shopping for your next party dress.

9. KNITS ARE FIT: Figure-hugging knit dresses usually tend to be more demure, but not when done Betsey Johnson-style. Whether it’s the Barbie pink color or huge butterfly print, these dresses certainly make a statement. So if you want to take them for a spin, you’d better have something to say.

10. FUN ABOVE ALL ELSE: Betsey’s credo, unfailingly, is fun. The finale with balloons underscored the fun atmosphere of the evening and the overall feel of the collection. Fun colors, fun shapes, and fun details. Isn’t this really what fashion should be all about? When it starts with what you wear, it inevitably permeates into who you are. Saturday night saw CTV Headquarters and Queen Street transform into an oasis of style and sound as it hosted the exclusive after party for the movie, Blindness. The red carpet was rolled out for the star-studded cast and crew, which included Julianne Moore, Gael Garcia Bernal, Mark Ruffalo who was accompanied by wife Sunrise Coigney, Danny Glover, Sandra Oh, and director Fernando Meirelles.

In the mist of New York Fashion Week and the Toronto International Film Festival, Canadian designers Dean and Dan Caten threw a outlandish party with MAC cosmetics last night at CTV Headquarters which was presented by FashionTelevision. The party is to be featured on an upcoming special that will be aired September 13th, called Born in Canada, Made in Italy.

For those of you not in the know, twin brothers Dean and Dan make up one of todays hottest labels, DSQUARED2. The brothers took this opportunity to unveil their Fall/Winter 2008 Collections to Toronto’s fashion elite and the celebs who were in town for the Toronto International Film Festival. Spotted at the party was the who’s who of Toronto’s fashion industry including FashionTelevision’s Jeanne Beker, FDCC president Robin Kay, and Canadian supermodel and actress Monika Schnarre. 

Celebrity guests included actress Sophia Bush, Jill Hennessy who is in Toronto for the premiere of her upcoming movie Lymelife, Nip/Tuck’s Kelly Carlson, NBA star Steve Nash, R&B songstress Kreesha Turner who also performed during the event, as well as many others.

Tattoo Rock Parlour held the premiere after party on Saturday night for “Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” which debuted at this year’s 2008 TIFF.  Leading actors, Canadian Michael Cera and Kat Dennings were in attendance, as well as cast members Alexis Dziena, Aaron Yoo, Ari Graynor, Jay Baruchel and Jonathan B. Wright. This group is looking to shape up as young Hollywood’s new A-list.

Also, joining the party was actor Gerard Butler who is in Toronto promoting his new movie RocknRolla and director Jason Reitman, who directed Nick & Norah’s staring actor Michael Cera in the lovable film, Juno.
